The Timmins Rock (6-12-0-1) had quite the adventure in the West Division over the weekend, but they couldn’t snag up any points in the process.

First, a road closure on Highway 17 prevented the team bus from passing through and their Friday night road contest against the Soo Thunderbirds (13-5-1-0) was postponed.

(A make-up game has been scheduled for Thursday, January 11th at 7:30pm. That’ll mean a four-game weekend road trip, as the Rock hit Espanola, Elliot Lake and Rayside-Balfour January 12-14.)

For the games that actually hit the ice, Timmins dropped a 6-2 decision to the Soo Eagles (10-6-0-0) Saturday night.

Austin Holmes and Stewart Parnell scored 3rd period markers for the Rock.

Eric Jackson was pulled 13:32 into the 2nd after giving up four goals on 27 shots. Timmins Majors call up Jordan Yaremchuk stopped six of seven in relief.

On Sunday, Parnell extended his point streak to four games with a goal. But his tally was the only one for the visitors as the Rock fell to Blind River (11-10-1-0) 3-1.

Jackson was back in this one, stopping 32 of 35 to take his second loss of the weekend.

It also means the Rock remain winless on the road this season (0-8-0-1) and remain in last in the NOJHL East Division.

They’re five points back of three teams (Cochrane, Hearst, French River) and eight points back of the 2nd place Kirkland Lake Gold Miners (9-7-2-1).

The Rock are back on home ice against Elliot Lake (8-12-1-0) Saturday, November 4th at 7:00pm.

HEARST TAKES 2 OF 3 ON ROAD
The Hearst Lumberjacks (9-8-0-0) were also out in the West Division this past weekend, taking two of three games.

They started it off with a 3-0 loss to the Soo Eagles Friday night, but followed it up with a 4-3 win over the Soo Thunderbirds Saturday and a 7-2 win in French River (8-12-2-0) Sunday.

Shadow Reuben, Spencer Silver, Morgan Scriber and Wade Auger provided Hearst’s scoring Saturday, with Nicholas Dube—24 saves on 27 shots—posting the win.

On Sunday, Max Johnson scored a hat trick, while Reuben, Bradley Golant, Alec Johnson and Josh Bifolchi notched single markers. Artem Bortovskiy made 33 saves on 35 shots for the win.

CRUNCH LOSE KEY DIVISION MATCHUP
The Cochrane Crunch (9-8-0-0) fell in Kirkland Lake 5-3 Saturday night.

Kyle Herbster scored twice and added a helper to Connor Lovie’s goal. Herbster now has a four-game point streak with eight points in that time frame.

Taylor Unruh made 25 saves on 30 shots for the loss.
