Remembrance Day might look a little different this year.

That’s because it is on a Saturday, which could bode well for those hoping for large turnouts at two ceremonies being held locally Saturday.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88 will host the Timmins ceremony at the Cenotaph at Hollinger Park.

Branch President Bill Pigeon says if you want a good spot, get there between 10:30am and 11am.

The march will start from the Algonquin regiment—located behind the Bon Air Motel—and make it’s way onto Algonquin and turning onto Brunette Road.

Pigeon says Brunette Road will be blocked off again for the ceremony.

And don’t forget if you can’t make it into Timmins, South Porcupine—Legion Branch 287—will be having their own ceremony at the Cenotaph on Legion Drive.

Pigeon says for the poppy sales, the hope is to raise $25-thousand dollars and all the money will go into a poppy fund to support local charities.

He lists off the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation, veterans families and the Golden Manor that have received dollars in the past.

The Golden Manor of note, has five beds dedicated to veterans and their families.

Pigeon says if nobody uses them, the general public will have access.

It’s also a year of change for the branch, who recently re-located to their new location on Mountjoy South. They were located in the La Ronde building for a long while until it caught fire a few years ago.

Pigeon says as of now, there are no plans to move from their new spot, which he says is about triple the size than what they’re used to.
