As winter tapers off and spring makes its way to Timmins, the 2017-2018 season for the Yo mobile comes to a close.

The Yo mobile serves the less fortunate and homeless every Friday and Saturday night during the winter months by parking outside City Hall and providing warm clothes, food and a warm spot to eat.

Most of the clothes and food are donations made by residents and small businesses. And the donations are always welcome. Danny Throne, who helps run the Yo Mobile, says anything and everything is welcome. “We rely a lot on the community itself to help with donations,” he told the KISS station earlier today. “A lot of people, they’ll donate, like, five dollars and [say] like, ‘I’m sorry, that’s all I could afford.’ Well, I’ll tell them, ‘Look, five dollars is more than we could ever ask for. It’s more than we had when we first started the bus. So, there’s no such thing as a bad donation. All donations are good. Everything helps in its own specific way.”

And the donations are definitely put to good use. This year, the Yo Mobile served 6,125 homeless people. That’s more than last season’s 5,300.

The Yo Mobile has been helping those less fortunate for more than 7 years and was started by Mario Dussault. Danny explains that the Yo Mobile is close to his and Mario’s hearts. “In the past, me and Mario were both homeless people. So we can relate a lot to the folks that we help. We’ll serve them food, hot drinks, keep them company. Show them that, hey, you’re not alone. You’re not invisible. We acknowledge you, we know you’re there. We’re here to help, we’re your friends.”

The Yo Mobile is closed until this October, but donations are welcome all year. You can donate by sending a message on the Yo Mobile’s Facebook Page.
