**OPP NEWS RELEASE**


Between April 23, 2018, at approximately 6:00 p.m., and the morning of April 25, 2018, officers of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the OPP North East Region Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) arrested and charged four individuals in three unrelated incidents.

On April 23, 2018, at approximately 6:00 p.m., following a traffic stop on Highway 11, near the Town of Hearst, Ontario, Gilbert BUNTING, 37 years of age, of Constance Lake First Nation, Ontario, was charged with the following offences:

 

  •  Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cannabis Marihuana – Under 3 kilograms, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC).

 

He is scheduled to appear and the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst, Ontario, on June 6, 2018, to answer to the charges. 

On April 24, 2018, at approximately 11:00 a.m., following a traffic stop on Highway 11, in the Town of Cochrane, Ontario, two males were arrested. 

Christian LEMIEUX, 42 years of age, of Hearst, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

 

  •  Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA;
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) CDSA;
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Resin – over 1 gram contrary to section 4(1) CDSA; and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) CDSA.

 

Nicholas THOMAS, 18 years of age, of Hearst, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

 

  •  Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA;
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Resin – over 1 gram contrary to section 4(1) CDSA; and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) CDSA.

 

Both accused persons are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, Ontario, on June 5, 2018, to answer to the charges.  

During the morning of April 25, 2018, North East Region CSCU members executed a CDSA search warrant at residence on Erikson Avenue in the Town of Kapuskasing, Ontario. Officers seized controlled substances suspected to be, cocaine, cannabis marihuana and cannabis resin, approximately $670 in Canadian currency, and drug paraphernalia. 

Daniel PETERS, 45 years of age, of Kapuskasing, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

 

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA;
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) CDSA; and
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Resin – over 1 gram contrary to section 4(1) CDSA.

 

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing, Ontario, on June 4, 2018, to answer to the charges.  

The total estimated street value of the seizures is of approximately $12300.
