**OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On May 13, 2018, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a Hearst officer of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) intercepted a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed east bound on Highway 11 in Hanlan Township, west of the Town of Hearst, Ontario.

Police investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of a controlled substance and seized suspected marihuana as well as $1005 in Canadian currency.

Keith BEGG, 62 years of age, of Anglemont, British Columbia was charged with the following offences:

  • Traffick Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – Over 3 kilograms, contrary to section 5(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – Over 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) CDSA;
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
  • Speeding 1 – 49 kilometres per hour Over Posted Limit contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA).

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst, Ontario, on June 1, 2018.

The total estimated street value of the seizure is of approximately $36,000.
