There’s a new family coming to Timmins, but they won’t be in town for long.

Jimmy Lefebrve and his family are on a walk to fight cancer, and they’re travelling across Canada to raise money.

Jimmy had been touched by cancer multiple times in his life, but it wasn’t until his dad, Simon, passed away last September, that he decided to do something about it.

“It touched me multiple times with family members throughout the years,” he said, “But it wasn’t until Dad passed away and seeing somebody, seeing my hero ultimately go through that battle with cancer, that it kicked me into gear.”

His dad had always lent a helping hand to those in need, even when he himself had very little.

“Dad was one of the most generous people that I knew,” Jimmy said.

So on May 1st, 2018, Jimmy and his wife, Kristie, mother, and two younger kids, left Grand Prairie AB., beginning their walk across the country. Their end goal is to stop outside St. Louis, PEI., where Jimmy’s father, Simon, will be laid to rest. In the planning stages of the walk, the final day will coincide with Simon’s 72nd birthday, on August 31st.

The Lefebvre family is on its 71st day of the walk (July 10th), and Jimmy says he’s wearing many hats as the patriarch behind this awareness campaign.

“Basically [I’m] the street cleaner to make sure that we don’t get any flat tires,” he said, “and I walk a little bit as well.” He adds, “I’m the one that put the initiative behind the Cancer Walk, 2018.”

Jimmy’s Lefebrve Foundation was created in 2016 and is now making its way through Timmins.

The family will be coming through town at the corner of McLean Drive and Victoria Ave. tomorrow morning, around 8:30 AM. They’ll be walking south on McLean Dr. to Highway 101, then heading east out of town.

Jimmy says anyone is welcome to donate, or join for some of the walk tomorrow.

“If anybody would like to join us on the walk,” he said, “by all means, please reach out to me at hello@thelfoundation.ca.

“If anybody sees us on the way, give us a honk, give us a wave. Encouragement is definitely a bonus and definitely valued from our side.”
