The Board of Trustees of District School Board Ontario North East is proud to announce the appointment of Kristen Niemi as new Superintendent of Schools, serving the Board’s Northern family of schools, as well as parts of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Learning and Teaching portfolio.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are pleased to announce the promotion of Kristen Niemi to the position of Superintendent-Northern Region,” commented Bob Brush, Board Chair. “We are confident that Ms. Niemi will exceed our expectations.”

Born and raised in Iroquois Falls, Niemi has an Honours Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Chemistry from Laurentian University, a Bachelor of Education from Western University, and a Master of International Education from Charles Sturt University.

She also brings 19 years of experience in education to the position, including: serving in the capacities of teacher, vice-principal and principal at various schools across the North including North Bay, Iroquois Falls and Cochrane.

“Ms. Niemi was selected from a field of outstanding candidates due to her demonstrated leadership capabilities, commitment to serving our students and their families, and her deep understanding of our district,” commented Lesleigh Dye, Director of Education.

“I look forward to continuing to work with the students, families and staff in the Northern region of District School Board Ontario North East,” added Niemi.

Niemi’s appointment follows the retirement of Michelle Leigh.
