This week, we are featuring platform highlights from the Ward Councillor candidates in the upcoming election. Our stations have reached out to each Councillor candidate to outline their platform for listeners. This is Ward 5 Councillor candidate Karina Miki Douglas-Takayesu’s submitted platform.

I come from Vancouver originally, and have lived in several communities in British Columbia and Ontario before my family first came to Northern Ontario in 1988. Intended only to be a year of living in the region has now turned into thirty, with the exception of time spent attending university in the South. Timmins is where I succeeded in establishing my career as an information professional. Since 2009, I have worked here as a Reference Librarian. In that time, I have met thousands of people in the community and helped answer your questions.  Now, I want to use that experience to serve you as citizens by giving you a unified voice in Council.

My platform includes:

  • Accessing resources
  • Arts & culture
  • Youth retention, and
  • Community well-being
