Halloween is just a few days away, but one haunted house is opening its creaking doors early.

Anyone looking for a scare, some fun and a way to give back to the community, will want to drop by 1094 Chestnut Lane in the next three days. Ron Lepine and his family and friends have built a massive haunted mansion for kids and adults to enjoy.

This is the second year Ron has built this huge setup outside and around his home. He set up the haunted walk through for the first time last year, when his granddaughter was disappointed that the Halloween Walk had been cancelled.

This year, Ron, along with the help of about 25 people, has made a bigger and better haunted house experience for everyone to enjoy. Ron says the house is for anyone 7 years old and up, and that there is a less spooky area for little kids outside the main house. He adds that even the older generation find his house scary.

“I had a 92 year old come through here last year,” Ron said, “and I happen to know them and she said ‘I’m coming back again this year.’ I try and put everybody through.”

Ron says he only asks that visitors are respectful of the devices inside and that they don’t touch or grab anything in the house. He says the main goal for him is to show the kids a good time.

“At the end of the day,” he said, “it’s all about the children.”

Ron said he’s noticed in recent years that there have been less Halloween decorations out on houses throughout the city. He wanted to rectify that with his house, but you won’t find anything too gory inside. His house celebrates, as he puts it, Old Halloween, with traditional scary creatures and figures for Halloween enthusiasts to enjoy. There’s one scary figure, however, you definitely won’t be seeing.

“We don’t like gory,” he said, “we don’t like clowns. So you’ll find no clowns at my mansion. The rest is like, it’s just an old Halloween type.”

Ron and his family will be giving out candy on Halloween night, and he’s expecting quite a crowd.

“”We’re expecting a thousand,” Ron said, “We’re trying to book for a thousand, be able to give treats to a thousand children on Halloween night.”

The house isn’t just open on Halloween though. It opens tonight at 530 and will be running from 530-930 tonight, tomorrow and Halloween night. Ron is accepting donations of either cash or food for the local food bank and the Yo Mobile.

“Everything goes back to the needy,” he said, “Last year, the food bank and even Mario from the Yo Mobile were amazed at what we gave them. And I thought it was nothing. It’s just something to give back.”

Ron said everyone was so charitable last year, he even had one child who had nothing to put into the pot so he grabbed candy from his own candy bag and added it to the donation pile.

Ron says he’s hoping to see about 2,000 pounds of food donations for the food bank. He’s hoping to beat what he collected last year, about 976 pounds of food. He’s also hoping to raise about $1000 for the Yo Mobile.

Ron says guests of the Haunted Mansion can expect a little delay before entering so everyone has a chance to go through and enjoy the house without being rushed or crowded. He also wants people to take their time to enjoy the displays and stay safe.

“We’re hoping to make this a yearly tradition,” Ron said, “I’m hoping to make it bigger and better every year.”

The entire run through the house should between 10 and 12 minutes. Anyone interested in getting more than one visit to the Haunted Mansion will be in luck; the house changes slightly every night. So check it out once, twice, or on all three nights that it’s open; you’re more than welcome.

“I have yet to see anybody say they didn’t like it when they left,” Ron said, “That makes me and my team…because I have a fantastic team that helps me. And without them, there’s no way I could do this.”

Ron has help from family and friends and he says working on this with them and seeing the payoff with each child going through is the best.

“Please come,” he said,” please help us make our goal and we’ll do our best to make sure you have an enjoyable visit with us.”

Anyone interested in visiting the Haunted Mansion should go to 1094 Chestnut Lane from 530-930 PM tonight, tomorrow, or on Halloween night.
