It’s Halloween and there’s lots going on in Timmins today to celebrate the spooky holiday. There are activities, haunted houses, and lots of opportunities to get some candy.

The Downtown Timmins BIA is organizing Trick ‘r Treating in the downtown area today. There will be 64 businesses in downtown Timmins handing out candy for the little ones today from 930 AM to 3 PM. There will also be 27 drama students from O’Gorman High School dressed up and handing out candy from 930 to 1130 this morning at some of the local businesses. Each business handing out candy will have two helium balloons hung outside their front doors to show kids where to go to get their treats this Halloween. For more on this, go here.

There’s also trick ‘r treating happening at the Timmins Square today. Malloween is happening at the mall today from 930 AM to 12 PM.  Kids can come show off their costumes and collect candy from stores at the mall. For more on this, go here.

If you’re a little too old for trick ‘r treating, but still want to take part in some Halloween fun, then head to Timmins High Vocational School for the Youth Wellness Hub’s Halloween Festivities. You can come in costume, paint pumpkins, decorate candy apples and watch a Halloween movie. The Youth Wellness Hub offers free activities for youths in the community aged 12-25. So come enjoy some spooky fun at Timmins High today from 4-9 PM and have a scary good time. For more on the Youth Wellness Hub and their upcoming events, check out their Facebook page here.

If a scary movie marathon is more up your alley for Halloween, then head to the Timmins Public Library for their FrankenFilms Marathon. The Timmins Library is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein by screening two Franken-films. The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) will be screening at 2 PM today. And at 6 PM tonight, you can come watch the 2014 movie I, Frankenstein, starring Aaron Eckhart. There will be popcorn, hot cocoa, snacks and more! It’s all free for kids 13 and up. So come get spooked today with some monster movies at the Timmins Public Library’s FrankenFilms Marathon, starting at 2 and 6 today. Registration is require. To register, or for more on this event, go here.

Anyone interested in a real scare this Halloween should check out the haunted mansion set up at 1094 Chestnut Lane. Ron Lepine and his family and friends have been working on the massive horror house for weeks and it opened on Monday night. They’re asking for a donation, either in food or in cash, to help support the local food bank and the Yo Mobile. The house is sure to scare kids 7 and up, and there’s a tamer area for smaller children outside. So stop by this huge house of horrors this evening between 530 and 930, and get spooked for a good cause. For the full story on the Haunted House on Chestnut Lane, go here.

And if you’re going trick ‘r treating tonight, or taking the kids, then you might want to check out some Halloween Safety Tips, released by the Timmins Police Service. Some of the tips for kids and parents include staying on sidewalks and crossing the street at corners using crosswalks, putting electronic devices down when crossing the street, putting reflective tape and stickers on your costume so you’re visible in the dark, carrying glow sticks or flashlights to see other kids and be seen by drivers, and trick ‘r treating in familiar areas with a group. The full list of safety tips for safe trick ‘r treating can be found here.

However you decide to celebrate Halloween today, be sure to stay safe, have fun, and enjoy all that candy.
