**MATHESON OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On November 3, 2018 at approximately 9:26 p.m., the Matheson Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a traffic complaint on Highway 11, south of Matheson, Ontario.

 

As a result of the investigation the OPP have charged two males with several offences. 

 

Michael RIOPEL, 35 years old of Kapuskasing, Ontario has been charged with the following:

 

  • Trafficking schedule I substance – methamphetamines (crystal meth), contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) – two counts,
  • Trafficking schedule I substance – cocaine, contrary to section 5(1) of the CDSA,
  • Trafficking schedule III substance – other drugs, contrary to section (5)(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling, contrary to section 10(2) of the Cannabis Act (CA),
  • Possession of illicit cannabis, contrary to section 8(1)(b) of the CA,
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to section 249(1) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Flight while pursued by peace office, contrary to section 249.1(1) of the CC,
  • Resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC,
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

 

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Also charged during the investigation is Denny FILION, 24 years old, of Kapuskasing, Ontario. He is charged with the following:

 

  • Trafficking schedule III substance – other drugs, contrary to section (5)(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Trafficking schedule I substance – other drugs, contrary to section 5(1) of the CDSA,
  • Trafficking schedule I substance – cocaine, contrary to section 5(1) of the CDSA,
  • Trafficking schedule I substance – methamphetamines(crystal meth), contrary to section 5(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of illicit cannabis, contrary to section 8(1)(b) of the Cannabis Act (CA),
  • Possession for the purpose of distributing, contrary to section 9(2) of the CA,
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1) of the Criminal Code.

 

The accused was released at a bail hearing. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on November, 27, 2018 in Timmins, Ontario.
