**TEMISKAMING OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On November 23, 2018, members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere program (RIDE) on Clover Valley Road, in the City of Temiskaming Shores, Ontario.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., a motor vehicle approached the RIDE program. The driver was stopped by police for a sobriety check. After speaking with the driver, the officer determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment to conduct breath tests.  The male blew more than double the legal blood-alcohol limit.

Darrell WESLEY, 23-years-old, of Temiskaming Shores, Ontario is arrested and charged with the following:

 

  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
  • Driving while under suspension (x2 counts), contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA,
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner, contrary to section 11(2) of the HTA,
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the HTA,
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA),
  • Driving while disqualified – court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253 (1)(b) of the CC, and
  • Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the CC.

    

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 45 days. The accused was released by way of Promise to Appear (PTA). He is scheduled to appear at court on December 11, 2018, in Haileybury, Ontario.

The Temiskaming Detachments of the OPP would like to remind motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
