There is a new place to get fit in downtown Timmins.

Mayor-elect George Pirie attended his first official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday as he helped officially open the Sandbox in its new location at 75 Pine Street South. Owner/Operator/Trainer, Kori Ferrigan, is thrilled to finally be in the new space.

“It’s my own, I’m so excited!” she said at the ribbon-cutting. “This is the first time I haven’t been under the umbrella of another gym. This is completely my own space. And I’m able to bring more to people and I’m just super excited.”

The Sandbox is a fitness place that officer group fitness classes like cardio boxing, High-Intensity Training, circuit training, pound (a drumming-inspired fitness club), spin classes, and personal training.

Kori says she is ready to welcome people to her own fitness space.

“All the other places I was at were wonderful, great,” she said, “but I had to fit into their compartment. This is now my compartment and everybody can come in and play. That’s why I call it the Sandbox, because you can come in and play.”

Kori used to operate under another business’ umbrella at Gracie Jui Jitsu, Relentless Fitness and, most recently, Stay Strong Studio, which recently closed. She says she can’t wait to share her passion with others looking to have fun while staying fit.

“This is my passion, I love this,” she said, “I love helping people and I love helping the 90% of society that won’t walk into a regular gym and just give them the ride of a lifetime, if you will.”

The new location has change rooms, a storage room for equipment, a personal training cardio room, and the full space where classes take place.

“Everybody who comes in is welcome,” Kori said. “Come on out and have some fun!”

The Sandbox is now located at 75 Pine Street South.
