**HEARST OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On November 27, 2018, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Hearst officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving an erratic driver on Highway 11 east of the Town of Hearst, Ontario.

 

Police located and intercepted the motor vehicle on Highway 11 east of the Town of Hearst, Ontario. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the Hearst detachment.

 

An OPP Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) confirmed that the driver was impaired by drug.

 

Kevin CARRIER, 32 years of age, of Red Lake, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

 

  • Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle – Drug contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) CC.

 

He was served with a 90 day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

 

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst, Ontario, on December 19, 2018.

 

The OPP reminds the motoring public to drive responsibly during this festive season.

 

Police are also asking the public to call the authorities if they see someone getting behind the wheel after having consumed intoxicating substances.
