**JAMES BAY OPP NEWS RELEASE**

On December 1, 2018, at 9:56 a.m., members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of someone in distress on the Moose River, near the shore of Moosonee.

Police located three persons stranded on the ice a short distance from shore. With the assistance of the Moosonee Fire Department and the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) Paramedic Service, all three were brought to shore safely. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The OPP, with its safety partners, encourage people to stay off the ice when conditions are dangerous; usually in early and late winter.  A/Inspector Roy Onlock, current Detachment Commander for the James Bay Detachments would like to remind the public that, “no ice is safe ice”.
