**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

The Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section is continuing to complete regularly scheduled RIDE spot checks in keeping with its commitment to public safety.

Despite the frigid temperatures, Timmins Police officers conducted RIDE at various locales throughout the city yesterday evening between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. which yielded the following results:

A total of 240 vehicles were stopped and 3 motorists were found to be in violation of the Highway Traffic Act which resulted in Provincial Offence Notices being issued.

Additionally, two roadside screening device breath tests were administered to two separate drivers. The results of these breath tests did not merit any further police action to be taken.

Timmins Police Staff Sergeant Tim Chalmers is quick to remind the public “Regardless of how cold it might be, Timmins Police Service officers have the obligation to take appropriate measures to enhance roadway safety within the city of Timmins. Drivers must be in full possession of their faculties in order to operate a motor vehicle safety and responsibly”

Timmins Police Acting Sergeant Brennan Campbell echoes these sentiments by stating “While the festive season has come and gone, the need to have and maintain a road safety presence in terms of RIDE spot checks is a priority for the Timmins Police Service. The need to plan ahead and make solid decisions rests on the shoulders of the individual driver. The consequences of poor decision making all too often leads to serious but avoidable collisions”.
