**TIMMINS POLICE NEWS RELEASE**

In keeping with its traffic management plan and in consultation with area large-scale trucking operation managers, the Timmins Police Service is issuing a Traffic Safety Advisory.

The Timmins Police Service has been made aware of a number of recent near miss traffic incidents stemming from narrower than usual lanes of travel on area traffic arteries.

Due to recent significant snowfalls, the ability to share the roadway and overall pedestrian visibility have been adversely affected.

Being mindful of these circumstances, the Timmins Police Service is advising local motorists to be particularly mindful of the hazards attached to narrow lanes of travel and limited visibility situations in certain high traffic areas of Algonquin Blvd and Riverside Drive.

Motorists are asked to use extra caution when meeting or following or overtaking tractor trailers in these areas as narrower lanes of travel require an extra level of attention.

Pedestrians are also asked to be particularly careful when venturing across lanes of traffic and only to do so when the traffic signal allows for pedestrians to lawfully cross the roadway.

Traffic safety is a joint venture and can only be enhanced with the cooperation of the motoring public in terms of the use of patience and good judgment at all times.
