**KIRKLAND LAKE OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On March 26, 2019, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Kirkland Lake Detachment responded to a call for assistance from a female who was the passenger in a motor vehicle on Highway 66, in Eby Township, Ontario.  

As a result of the investigation police seized a conductive energy weapon and drugs suspected to be methamphetamine and illicit cannabis.  

Mitch TROCHIMCHUK, 38 years of age, from Chelmsford, Ontario, has been charged with the following;  

  •  Sexual Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 272(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the CC,
  • Operation While Impaired, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC,
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available, contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017(CCA2017),
  • Drive Consume Cannabis in a Vehicle or Boat, contrary to section 17.1(1a) of the Smoke-Free Ontario Act 2017 (SFOA2017),
  • Novice Driver – Presence of Drug, contrary to section 44.2(4) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and
  • Drive While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA.

 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on May 1, 2019.
