** Schumacher Novice Cubs News Release**

The Schumacher Cubs hockey team were crowned Novice A Champions in last weekend’s 23rd Annual Ken Creasey Tournament in Sudbury.  They went undefeated through their round robin games beating The Nickel Centre Sting in their first game 6 -0.

The Cubs also beat Copper Cliff Toronto 7 – 1 in their 2nd game.

Their 3rd game vs the French River Rapids saw the Cubs take a commanding 7-2 victory which sent them to the A division championship game to take on The Pembroke Daredevils.

The championship game was everything you’d expect from the 2 top teams, seeing back and forth action at both ends of the ice, but The Pembroke Daredevils took a quick 2-0 lead to close out first period.

The Cubs continued to battle in the 2nd period and managed to pop in a goal from Evan Gervais to bringing score to within one at the end of the period.   The 3rd period would see The Cubs regroup and tie the game with a quick goal from Chase Coderre to spark a major momentum shift in the Cubs favour.

The Cubs continued their strong defensive play in the 3rd led by Elliotte Robart, Owen MacGregor, Owen Legault and Max Guertin, which led to a coast to coast goal by Dominic Jodouin with only a few minute left on the clock.  The remaining few minutes seemed like an eternity but goalie Cole Wilson shut the door on the Daredevils comeback to close the game out in a nail biter finish to preserve the victory at 3-2.
