**City OF TIMMINS NEWS RELEASE**

Norman Street has been reopened to the motoring public as of 11 am yesterday however, should water levels increase on the Mattagami River, the street may be closed again on short notice.
The City of Timmins would like to remind residents to remain vigilant around flooded areas and fast-moving water, and to be prepared in the event of flooding.

As we all know, the winter of 2019 saw significant snow amounts across the region. Many area lakes and rivers are seeing high levels at this time. This is due to recent rain events, along with the melting snow.

Although the cooler temperatures have been favourable over the past several days and have delayed the melt temporarily, temperatures are expected to rise again over the weekend. This will result in elevated levels and flow. The Timmins Flood Advisory Committee is currently meeting daily and continuing to monitor water levels.

The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority and the Timmins Flood Advisory Committee are currently the leads on flood management and are encouraging residents in low-lying areas to be prepared in the event of flooding.

Sand bag filling stations have been set up at the following locations if you require bags to protect your property:
– Golden and Crawford, South Porcupine
– Bristol Road, Porcupine
– Mountjoy Arena, Timmins
– Confederation Sports Centre

“Our primary concern at this time is the safety of our residents and visitors,” said Timmins Fire Chief Tom Laughren. “We are strongly encouraging residents not to become complacent as there is still a lot of snow in the bush and some unpredictable flows from the upper water shed. Please be pro-active and take precautions to protect yourselves and your property.”
