**TIMMINS POLICE NEWS RELEASE**

The Timmins Police service responded to an “animal in distress” call for service yesterday evening at a Dwyer Street residence, in Schumacher. Once on scene, a 6 lb bear cub, apparently orphaned, could be heard crying out from a make shift hiding place within a section of the residence. The bear was located by the responding Timmins Police Service officer. A cursory search of the immediate area for the mother was unsuccessful.

Given the cub’s size and age and fearing that it would not be able to survive on its own, a decision was made to have the cub “taken into custody”.

Appropriate arrangements were made with the MNRF and the cub is to be transported to a black bear rehabilitation facility near Huntsville, Ontario, in the next day or so.
