**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident which occurred in Schumacher during the early morning hours of Sunday, January 26th.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., a Timmins Police Service officer had occasion to attempt to stop the driver of a pickup truck that was being driven in an erratic fashion.

During the pursuit, the driver struck a fully marked Timmins Police cruiser while trying to evade the police.
Additional Timmins Police officers attended the scene to render assistance, as the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled to a vacant apartment on Dwyer Avenue in Schumacher.

The scene was contained while a warrant to enter the premises was sought and eventually issued to the Timmins Police Service.

Entry into the apartment resulted in the hiding suspect being located and eventually arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

A weapon was located on the suspect’s person incident to arrest by the Timmins Police Service.
As a result of the incident, Justin BERTRAND, 29, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Flight from Police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Drive While Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Mischief to Property contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Resist Arrest contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Remain at the Scene of a Collision contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
– Drive While Suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
– Drive – No License contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bails hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
