The Timmins Rock, are now on a two game losing streak. They took a 3-2 overtime loss to the Powassan Voodoos last Friday and then, took a 6-3 loss to the Hearst Lumberjacks on the road on Saturday.

The loss to the Voodoos on Friday didn’t bother Head Coach Corey Beer too much because after all it was a regular season game and they still got a point.

“It was a phenomenal game for us, and I loved it too because, you look at their team over there… Riding high a couple years ago they have the same guys on their roster… we knock them out of the playoffs.” -Said the Rock Head Coach

“They’re September champs, February champs. They’re celebrating that win as if they just won a league championship, They’re chirping our bench… last time I checked you gotta play all the way through the playoffs to win these kind of things… You got a guy out there, their top scorer show boating… and he’s never made it past a first round.”

“I look at our guys and we have so much talent, so much character in that room, It’s great to see.. Forget about that goal that went in in overtime. That first chance that goes out to Tyler Gilberds, if he taps that in… It’s a heroic comeback. Instead, it goes the other way and that’s the beauty of overtime in regular season. In the playoff you gotta play 5on5 and the way that game was going, you know… play them in a playoff series, we’ll be coming.”

The next night, the Rock were on the road taking on the Lumberjacks. The last time these two teams met, was on December 15 where the Rock, beat them 9-4.

The Lumberjacks didn’t forget about that… The Jacks, were looking to stun the Rock and they did. The Rock, got scored on in the first 30 seconds of the game. The rest of the game didn’t go too well.. The Rock managed to comeback within one at one point, but the comeback fell short and they took a 6-3 loss.

What the scoreboard said at the end of the game… wasn’t the biggest story. Rock goaltender Vance Meyer, was run over after one of the Lumberjacks goal and left the game with an upper body injury and was rushed to hospital afterwards.

From Timmins Rock Head Trainer Lacey Rigg:

Corey Beer, has said it all season long… he loves when the team faces adversity. Well, the team is facing adversity once again. They’re dealing with injuries at the worst possible time of the year with playoffs looming, but thankfully the roster has a lot of depth.

Injury Update: #92 David Laroche, out with a lower body injury, could return this week. #35 Ty Masternak, out with an upper body injury, could return this week. #11 Evan Beaudry, out with an upper body injury, listed as day-to-day. #45 Vance Meyer, out with an upper body injury for an unknown period of time.

The Rock, have called up a few player’s from the Timmins Majors, and the one that will likely remain with the team until Meyer or Masternak comes back is the third goaltender Julien Lefebvre.

The team now has two games left on their schedule. They’ll take on the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners at the Mac on Wednesday for their final home game of 2019-2020, and then they’ll hit the road on the following day to take on the Cochrane Crunch.

They’ll look to snap their losing skid and pick up the final four points up for grabs. Unfortunately, the Rock will not be finishing first in their division this season as the Voodoos have clinched that spot. However, the Rock are guaranteed to finish second. If there’s one thing that hockey has taught everyone at some point… it doesn’t matter where you finish in the regular season because come playoff time, anything can happen.
