**OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On April 25, 2020 at approximately 2:59 p.m., members of the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 in Iroquois Falls.

The driver was travelling in excess of 50 kilometers per hour (km/h) over the posted 90km/h zone.

As a result of the investigation, Brandon MARTEL, age 19 of Iroquois Falls was arrested and charged with the following:

  •  Operation while Impaired – alcohol or drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC,
  • Race a motor vehicle – Excessive Speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and,
  • Young driver – B.A.C. above zero contrary to section 44.1(5) of the HTA.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 14, 2020 in Timmins.
