**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has arrested and charged a Toronto man and a Young
Offender from Toronto stemming from an incident originating at a downtown hotel early
yesterday and migrating to Schumacher. The wanted fugitive and the young person had been involved in an altercation with the Timmins Police in a hotel parking area during the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 23rd.

A Timmins Police Service officer had sustained injury in the altercation requiring medical
treatment at the Timmins and District Hospital. He has since been released from hospital and has returned to work in a modified capacity until he is completely able to resume full duties.

The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that was later located abandoned in Schumacher.
The immediate area where the vehicle was abandoned came under control of the Timmins
Police Service for approximately 6 hours yesterday.

The incident culminated in the arrest of both parties during a maneuvered and controlled stop of
a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Brunette Road and Algonquin Blvd at approximately 5:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

The Timmins Police Service deployed its Emergency Response Team in collaboration with the
OPP ERT members to effect the arrest and take both subjects into custody without incident.
As a result of the incident, Trayvon STEWART, 19, of Toronto and a 16 year old male young
person have been charged with:

– Carry a Firearm in a Careless Manner contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code
of Canada
– Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm contrary to the
Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Occupy a Motor Vehicle – Knowing a Firearm is Within contrary to the Criminal Code of
Canada
– Possession of Proceeds of Crime Over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

A comprehensive investigation into their actions within the city of Timmins prior to arrest is still
underway by the Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigations Division.

Based on the initial findings of that investigation, Trayvon STEWART is charged with additional
counts of:
– Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle – Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of
Canada
– Flight from Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, a firearm, a vehicle, and other proceeds of crime have been seized by the Timmins
Police Service in keeping with this investigation. Both accused persons are held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the respective charges laid against them.
