**OPP NEWS RELEASE**

On July 3, 2020 at approximately 5:15 p.m., members of the Matheson Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a residential fire on North Road in Matheson where two people were found deceased.  

The Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service completed a post mortem examination and the deceased have been identified as William CLARK, age 55 and Jessica FORTIER, age 23, both from the Town of Matheson.  

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing by members of the South Porcupine OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Service (FIS) under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) in partnership with members from the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.  

The investigation is continuing. There is no risk to the public at this time.
