**PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT NEWS RELEASE**

DAILY COVID-19 UPDATE FOR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2020
The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting one new case (https://bit.ly/3c41zYh). The individual from the James and Hudson Bay region is a contact of another positive case, between the ages of 20 to 29 and is self-isolating. At this time, the current number of confirmed positive cases is now 82, six of which remain active.
Hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of germs, including COVID-19. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 15 seconds. When that is not an option, use hand sanitizer that has an alcohol concentration of at least 60%. See the list of authorized sanitizers (https://bit.ly/3cqyGWE).
Some hand sanitizers are being sold in packaging that could appeal to children, such as squeeze pouches that are more commonly seen for food or beverages. Children may accidentally mistake them for edible products and consume them.
Here are a few tips on what you should do to help your child use hand sanitizers safely and to avoid accidental ingestion. Always read and follow the label directions on sanitizers; if you choose to send children to school with hand sanitizer, avoid those in packages that resemble food or beverage containers to avoid possible confusion; supervise children when they use hand sanitizer; store them out of the reach; and talk to your child about how to use them safely.
Children should not use those containing technical-grade ethanol – check the label. Visit https://youtu.be/qK9OV-On98g to learn how to properly clean your hands with hand sanitizer.
