**United Way News Release**

 With less than three weeks until the puck drops in the inaugural United Way Charity Match presented by Bell Let’s Talk, excitement and momentum are soaring. On September 14, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Québec Major Junior Hockey League will square off at the McIntyre Arena in Schumacher in support of youth and youth mental health.

 

“United Way Centraide North East Ontario is committed to helping kids be all they can be,” says Jennifer Gorman, Manager, Cochrane and Timiskaming Districts. “Ensuring that resources and supports are available locally to help our youth build resiliency, self-esteem and a sense of belonging is essential to having a strong, healthy community. What I love about this event is the platform it provides to talk openly about mental health. And the added benefit is we get to enjoy some great hockey.”

 

Michael Cullen, Executive Director with UWCNEO, adds, “Mental illness affects individuals of all ages, educational and income levels, and cultures. Mental illness does not discriminate. Sadly, suicide is the second leading cause of death for Canadians between the ages of 10 and 24. UWCNEO is committed to improving access and availability of resources needed to strengthen our communities.”

 

“One of the biggest hurdles for anyone suffering from mental illness is overcoming the stigma that prevents so many from getting the treatment they need,” said Sandy McDonald, Bell’s Regional Director of Community Affairs. “That’s why initiatives such as this by the Wolves and Huskies in partnership with United Way Centraide North East Ontario are so important to raising awareness, especially among young people, and why Bell Let’s Talk is pleased to lend our support.”
