**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

The Timmins Police Service responded to a residential theft in progress in the north end of the city early this morning (11 Oct).

Upon arrival, Timmins Police Service officers were advised of how a local resident had confronted a suspect allegedly trying to gain entry into a parked vehicle.

The officers took a male suspect into custody in relation to the altercation and recovered a number of smaller items believed to be stolen from vehicles in the area.

Kyle NAKOGEE, 31, of Timmins is charged with:
– Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Trespass by Night contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from custody on the strength of a Promise To Appear requiring that he attend Provincial Court in Timmins on November 27th to answer to the charges laid against him.

As a result of this investigation, a number of smaller items, believed to have been stolen from unlocked vehicles in the north end of the city, remain in the possession of the Timmins Police Service as evidence.

Any residents who have become aware of any similar petty theft occurrences in the north end of the city are asked to report these matters to the Timmins Police Service in the hopes of returning items to their rightful owners after these matters have been dealt with appropriately through the court system.

The Timmins Police Service would like to take this opportunity to remind residents and property owners to:
– lock their parked or unattended vehicles
– not keep valuable items in their vehicles
– keep any items stored in their unattended or parked vehicles hidden from plain view

These simple measures will reduce the likelihood of becoming the victim of theft occurrences.
