Timmins_Police_Service_logo_updDuring the month of September, five individuals were charged with Impaired Driving offences.

On September 1, at approximately 2:20 p.m., police received a report of a possible impaired driver in the area of 6Th Ave. and Spruce St. N. Upon attending the area, police located the suspect vehicle and spoke to the driver, noting signs of impairment. Following an investigation, Jean LAFOREST, 29, of Timmins was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drug, and Fail/Refuse to Provide Breath Sample.

On September 12, at approximately 3:30 a.m., police observed a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Mountjoy St. and Algonquin Blvd. Police initiated a traffic stop and spoke to the driver of the vehicle, noting signs of impairment. Following their investigation, police charged Jared MORRISON, 22, of Kirkland Lake, ON with Impaired Driving, Driving with More than 80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood, and Possessing More than one License pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

On September 13, at approximately 6:15 a.m., police received a call regarding a motor vehicle collision on Algonquin Blvd E. Police also received information that one driver had attempted to leave the scene. Police located the vehicle in question and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking the driver, police noted signs of impairment. Following an investigation, Robin SUTHERLAND, 30, of Fort Albany, ON was charged with Impaired Driving, Driving with More than 80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood, and Failing to Remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

On September 26, at approximately 11:05 p.m., police observed a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Mountjoy St. and Algonquin Blvd. Police initiated a traffic stop and spoke to the driver of the vehicle. Police noted signs of impairment in the driver. Following an investigation, Wayne JOHNSON, 54, of Timmins was charged with Impaired Driving, and Driving with More than 80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood.

On September 30, at approximately 5:50 p.m., police received a report of a possible impaired driver driving a transport truck in the area of Highway 101 W. Police located the driver of the transport and upon speaking to him, noted signs of impairment. Following further investigation, Joey CHAMBERS, 43, of Timmins was charged with Impaired Driving, and Driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of Blood.

Fortunately, none of these incidents resulted in serious injury to Timmins residents; however, the result could have been much different in each of these incidents. Drivers are putting the lives of our citizens at risk every time they choose to drive impaired. The Timmins Police Service reminds residents to remain vigilant and report all suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.

Signs of an impaired driver can include: tailgating, erratic braking, swerving, inconsistent signaling, slow response to traffic signals, and driving with headlights off at night, among others.
