chamber 2016

The Timmins Chamber is falling short of promoting their successes with all levels of government.

That admission from incoming President Christine Bender, who starting today takes the reins from Kurt Bigeau.

“The Chamber’s been the catalyst for promoting positive change,” says Bender, “And I think mostly, our community is unaware of (it) and our businesses are unaware of (it), and I’d really like to see a change in that this coming year.”

She says it’s amazing to see the positive reputation the local Chamber has at conferences out of town.

“This is a Chamber that’s never satisfied with the status quo,” Bender adds.

“We’re always making changes with the consistent objective of creating a more positive environment for business owners, and the work they conduct so it’s been really exciting to watch that transition from year to year.”

Looking back at the year that was, Bigeau says Chamber events had amazing attendance numbers who represented the organization well.

Bigeau says it tied in well with his theme of “engagement.”

His other highlight over the last 12 months was working with Mayor Steve Black and CAO Joe Torlone, and developing the relationships to work together.

Bender and Bigeau will be in attendance to formally kick off the Chamber year at the Chamber’s annual general meeting slated for Wednesday, September 28th at the Day’s Inn and Conference Centre.
