janitorSupport staff at Ontario schools — including librarians, custodians and educational assistants — have entered phase two of their job action after talks with the province failed to reach a deal.

The 5,500 members of CUPE won’t attend unpaid meetings and training.

Custodians also won’t sweep hallways or clean the grounds while other employees won’t photocopy unless it’s on paid time, won’t buy school supplies with their own money or submit lesson plans.

CUPE Rep Dan Bouchard says there aren’t any talks scheduled in the foreseeable future, but they are trying to get back to the bargaining table.

He says with all the sanctions put in place, they will still do duties that help out the children in schools, such as assembly set up and tear down and other health and safety-related things.

Support staff have been without a contract for more than a year.
