**NORTHERN COLLEGE NEWS RELEASE**

Northern College is pleased to announce the continued success of our Bingo for Bursaries program in partnership with the Timmins Gaming Centre.

Over the past number of years Northern College’s Alumni Association has embarked on numerous creative fundraising programs to help give students a leg up on what can be an expensive educational journey.

Through partnerships with dozens of area companies and countless generous alumni, Northern College is able to issue bursaries each year, offering students access to well over three hundred thousand dollars in bursaries each year.

“We have retirees, alumni and staff volunteering, it’s a way to stay connected and to give back,” said Nicole Gingras, Northern College Alumni Development Officer. “We all contribute to the success of Bingo for Bursaries and as a result, we are able to give back to our students.”

Through the generosity of volunteers, the program has raised over 38 thousand dollars since its inception in 2016 offering a helping hand to 37 students to date.

“We give out 14 bursaries every fall and we give out 17 every winter and six at graduation time and they’re all valued at 500 dollars apiece” said Nicole Gingras, Northern College Alumni Development Officer.

Northern College remains committed to the success of its students, recognizing that finances often play a crucial role in determining both short and long term goals for students attending all four of our campuses.

“Any donation, any kind of fundraising that we can get to support our bursary program makes such a difference in the lives of our students,” said Gingras. “We’re able to award these at critical times during the year, it make the difference of them graduating and getting through until the end.”
