**TEMISKAMING OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On November 30, 2018 members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for a traffic complaint in the City of Temiskaming Shores, Ontario.        

 

Further investigation revealed that on November 28, 2018 shortly before 8:30 a.m. an eastbound vehicle failed to stop for a school bus that was picking up children on McCamus Avenue, in the City of Temiskaming Shores. 

 

The suspect vehicle was located a short time later, and the 65-year-old driver, Gilles BUJOLD, of Temiskaming Shores, Ontario is charged with:  

  • Fail to stop for school bus – overtaking, contrary to section 175(12) of the Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.).

 

No injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.

Ontario law requires motorists traveling in both directions to stop their vehicle when approaching a stopped school bus with its upper lights flashing.  Every driver or street car operator, when approaching from the rear of a stopped school bus that has its overhead red signal-lights flashing, shall stop at least twenty metres before reaching the bus. When approaching a school bus, drivers shall remain stopped until the school bus begins to move, and the upper red lights have stopped flashing.

 

Police are reminding motorists to keep your eyes on the road, look ahead and be prepared to stop for the school buses. Please help us keep our children safe.
