**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

The Timmins Police Service members were called upon to identify, locate and provide some measure of comfort and support to the less fortunate in our community.

For a number of years now, a local benefactor has provided funds to the Timmins Police Service to distribute in reasonable increments to those persons in dire need.

This year, Timmins Police Service officers, who commonly walk the beat in the downtown core of Timmins, were provided with blankets, community resource cards, cash, and gift card vouchers to be distributed as they deemed necessary to persons struggling with addictions, mental health or poverty related issues in our community.

These gifted materials and funds were provided to the Timmins Police by a number of local generous business people who entrusted distribution to those persons who are best able to identify and locate those in need. The Timmins Police are thankful to these local benefactors for their generosity and foresight in regards to providing support to those in need, especially at this time of year.

The recipients of these materials and funds were quite often overcome with emotion and brought to tears by these gestures of goodwill. This program is run under the direct oversight of the Chief of Police and all distributions are noted in the officer’s daily journal in keeping with internal policy governing such activities.

Constable Tambeau and Sgt. Bertrand were the front line distributors of the donated blankets and cash. They distributed 50 blankets and $5000 in “gifts” to those persons and families they encounter in the course of their duties and were beyond pleased to be able to provide a little Christmas support to those who are in need.

Local citizens and families that are struggling day to day have had their burden lightened by this program and the gratitude of the recipients is obvious in the photos provided.
