The Timmins Police Service has charged two local residents stemming from an alleged attempt to steal from a local bank early this morning.

The would-be thieves are alleged to have attended at a local bank in Timmins and proceeded with their attempts to retrieve funds from the bank’s night deposit receptacle using a primitive device.

These actions triggered the bank’s alarm system and responding Timmins Police Service officers located and arrested the pair at the scene and took them into custody.

As a result of the incident, Sheri THAXTER, 39, of Timmins, has been charged with:

– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Gilbert GAUDET, 44, of Timmins, has been charged with:

– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Both accused persons remain in police custody awaiting their respective bail hearings slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against them.
