**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man stemming from a disturbance at a local shelter which occurred during the late morning hours of Thursday, January 24th.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers located the suspect who is alleged to have brandished an edged weapon and entered into an assaultive altercation with a shelter worker and fled the scene after the event took place.

The suspect was located by the Timmins Police Service in the vicinity of the shelter and taken into custody without incident.

A search of his person found him to be in possession of other weapons and it is further alleged that he made other threats upon being arrested.

As a result of the incident, Roger CHOKOMOLIN, 55, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Utter Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of a Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody and is currently awaiting a bail hearing at Provincial Court in Timmins this morning to answer to the charges laid against him.
