**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man stemming from an incident in the downtown core which occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, January 27th.

While completing patrols of the downtown core area, a Timmins Police Service officer observed an SUV being driven in an erratic fashion.

Despite repeated attempts to have the driver come to a halt, the driver is alleged to have continued to flee from the police.

For public safety reasons, the pursuit was halted by the Timmins Police Service.

The vehicle in question was located a short while later and the alleged driver and passenger were located a short distance away and taken into custody.

The driver was arrested after a brief and pointless foot pursuit.

The passenger was released once his level of involvement had been determined.

As a result of the incident, Justin BERTRAND, 28, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Flight from Police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Operate a Motor Vehicle – No Licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused remains in police custody and is currently awaiting a bail hearing at Provincial Court in Timmins this morning to answer to the charge laid against him.
