**TIMMINS SKI RACERS NEWS RELEASE**

Over the weekend, the Timmins Ski Racers (TSR) competed against six other teams in the circuit, bringing home a total of 10 medals, while battling extreme temperatures.

The U-10 to U-16 athletes, under the direction of team head coach Cameron Grant, participated in the annual Boreal Cup, hosted at Kamiskotia Snow Resort that sees teams from Sudbury, North Bay, Elliot Lake, Val d’Or and Rouyn.

On the Saturday in the women’s slalom, U-14 Kendra Rusenstrom took the gold. In the men’s slalom U-14 Cameron Nycz managed to capture silver while U-16 Jamie Brain took third place. U-10 Myriam Levesque held her position from the previous week standing atop the podium with first place.

As Sunday morning temperatures dropped to –45 Celsius with fierce winds, both Sophie Harterre and Camron Nycz finished the giant slolam in second place. U-14 Kendra Rusenstrom and Gabriel Taylor also took home silver and bronze respectively, while Myriam Levesque took the gold totaling the weekend count at 10 medals.

“This is the second weekend in a row that the team competes in extreme temperatures,” said Cameron Grant, “although racing on home turf has its advantages as navigating the terrain and the winds has come as second nature to them. I am very proud of all the racers, overcoming some heavy obsticles over the weekend.”

After the qualifying race in Mattawa, Camron Nycz and Kendra Rusentrom have been selected to compete in the U14 OCUP Midwinter Games in Collingwood, ON accompanied by their colleagues in the U16 category, Eli Taylor and Sophie Harterre, having also qualified for their respective OCUP Midwinters taking place weekend.

“These athletes have trained very hard to make it to midwinters,” added Grant. “With their dedication and perseverance, I know that they will represent Timmins well at the Provincial level.”
