**TIMMINS JAMES BAY MP NEWS RELEASE**

A number of community groups are getting much needed funding to help upgrade facilities or expand services. Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus says 7 organizations will benefit from the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Angus says community-based projects are eligible to receive up to $25,000 per year, per organization, in grant funding.

“We have always done well with this program. For senior’s organizations, this is often the difference between proceeding with a project and not proceeding.”

Those receiving funding this year include:

  • Cochrane Senior Health Promotion and Senior Support Group
  • Porquis Recreation Association
  • Cochrane-Iroquois Falls Seniors Virtual Information Hub
  • XYZ Senior’s Club
  • Ojibway and Cree Cultural Centre
  • Cochrane Second Mile Club
  • Moose Cree First Nation

 

“The program is geared towards organizations, led or inspired by seniors that want to help seniors make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities.”

The criteria include promoting volunteerism, upgrading facilities, senior’s programs and increasing awareness of abuse.
