The longest active MPP in Ontario is taking a medical leave.

Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson announced through Facebook Sunday night he will be gone 6-8 weeks to recover from surgery on his leg.

He says this surgery is to fix a leg artery and clean out an infection developed from a recent surgery to clear blockage in the right artery of his heart.

The 59-year old remains confident he will recover and will make a complete recovery.
