Timmins_Police_Service_logo_updThe Downtown BIA is feeling safer after a meeting with the Timmins Police and the public. They voiced their concerns about shoplifting, vagrancy and received tips on how they can help the problems.

The safety meeting was a great opportunity for business owners and the public to voice their opinions on how to make the downtown safer. One of the main things they agreed upon was having foot patrol downtown. After a summer of under staffing, the Timmins police now have one officer assigned to the downtown core. Executive director, Noella Rinaldo, says it really makes a difference when you have an officer who really knows the downtown and the businesses.

The business owners were also given tips on how to deal with shoplifters, which included how to approach shoplifting from a legal perspective and the rights of a business owner.

Rinaldo also said they are working towards making the downtown a friendly place to head down too.
