OPPOn September 3, 2015, the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a R.I.D.E. check at the intersection of Highway 11 and Aurora Avenue in the Town of Cochrane.

During the check, a male driver failed to slow down and come to a stop for police; he then stopped shortly after.

Police have charged Alexandre CLAIROUX, 20, of Orleans, ON with the following criminal and provincial offences:

  • Adult Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle contrary section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
  • Adult Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marijuana – under 30 grams contrary section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • Fail to slow down and proceed with caution for emergency vehicle contrary to section 159(2) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Drive – hand-held communication device contrary to section 78.1(1) of the HTA.

The accused was served with a 90 day Administrative driver’s licence suspension (ADLS) and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on November 3, 2015.

The investigation was completed by members of the James Bay Detachment with the assistance of a Drug Recognition Expert.
