The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Criminal Code weapons offences stemming from an incident which occurred during the early evening hours of Sunday, June 2nd.

The suspect is alleged to have been involved in a physical altercation at a licensed premise earlier in the evening which prompted him to attend a residence and collect a firearm.  The Timmins Police Service was alerted that the event had taken place and kept observation for the suspect’s vehicle.  The suspect was recognized, located and intercepted by Timmins Police Service officers who initiated a coordinated traffic stop of the suspect’s vehicle.  The man was arrested and a firearm was seized as evidence.

As a result of the ensuing investigation, the Timmins Police Service has charged Eddy A ROY, 49, of Timmins with
– Careless Storage of a Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
– Utter Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Handle Firearm in a Careless Manner contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Firearm – Use while Committing an Offence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Other firearms owned by the accused were seized by the Timmins Police Service as a precautionary measure for public safety reasons.
The accused remains in police custody while awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.
