PRESS RELEASE

TIMMINS PUBLIC LIBRARY

*********************************

Join us for a StoryWalk® at Gillies Lake on Saturday June 8th 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A StoryWalk® is an opportunity for children and families to experience reading a book while walking through a chosen area, such as park, trail, or neighbourhood. StoryWalk® promotes literacy, outdoor physical activity, and encourages parental and community involvement.

In celebration of National Indigenous History Month, our committee has selected the story Little Bear’s Day by Caylie Gnyra, which explores indigenous day to day activities and traditions. The story will be told in three languages (Cree, English & French). There will be 8 local community organizations present promoting their programs and services dedicated to young families. Be prepared for a fun afternoon of reading, learning and a free BBQ lunch (while quantities last).

Organizing Committee:

  • Timmins Public Library
  • Porcupine Health Unit
  • Misiway Milopemahtesewin Community Health Centre
  • Ojibway and Cree Cultural Centre
  • Timmins Native Friendship Centre
  • Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board

  • EarlyON

We would also like to acknowledge the local grocery stores Metro, Dailey’s Your Independent Grocer, and Foodland as well as Fountain Tire for their donations towards our BBQ lunch.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration the Kellogg Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
