It wasn’t an ordinary school morning today as Pope Francis had to evacuate the school.

“There was an emergency situation this morning at Pope Francis Elementary School. All students and staff and child care partners were evacuated to the Board office located at 383 Birch St. N. and Ecole St. Jacques Cartier.  All students and staff are safe.  The school has been re-opened and all students and staff members have returned to Pope Francis Elementary School.” – Andrew Marks Community Relations Officer Northeastern Catholic District School Board.

 

**TIMMINS POLICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service is currently investigating an incident where an e-mail was received indicating that explosives may have been placed at an educational facility.
As a proactive measure, the building in question was evacuated for public safety reasons and to better allow for a comprehensive search of the facility to take place.

As a further public safety measure, additional educational facilities in Timmins and one in South Porcupine that fall under the administrative control of the site where the threatening e-mail was originally received, have been evacuated as well.

No tangible items linked to the threatening e-mail have been discovered by the Timmins Police Service at any of the affected sites based on a series of intensive searches and scene scans.

This matter is now under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Timmins Police Service.
Significant investigative resources have been deployed by the Timmins Police Service, including the E-crime Section to determine the origin of the e-mail, as well as a thorough scan of all available video surveillance equipment in use at any of the affected facilities.

The investigation is proceeding at a healthy pace but daily operations are returning to normal at the affected sites.
