Timmins Police and the Timmins and District Hospital were very happy to make the announcement of their new Rapid Response Team launch this morning. The new team is called the “Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Unit” (MCRRU) for short. The Program is designed to offer timely assistance to people while they’re in crisis and to connect them to services at the Hospital or in the community. Police Officers on the team are on hand to keep everyone in the situation safe, while allowing a mental health specialist to use their skills and expertise to assist and support anyone who is in crisis.

This team/unit will be running all year round and the team will be active for 12 hours during the day. The unit will be made available for anyone between the hours of 11AM and 11PM 7 days a week.

“The best part about having this team, is the follow up feature that is not there presently. Meaning that if somebody is open to receiving help, a lot of the individuals in the community who have either mental health or addiction challenges, they need an outreach approach to getting them the help that they need. Because, they may say today that they want the help, but tomorrow they may feel better and feel that they don’t need the help. But with this unit, we can provide that support.” -CST Mike Tambeau Timmins Police Service

The mobile team will eventually become fully integrated with other crisis services including safe beds that will provide people with voluntary community crisis accommodation, while also connecting people with services and  supports to enable, community living that addresses the health of others and their well being long term.
