DogsVsLeafBlowerIn response to the many requests to designate an off-leash area at the Hersey Lake Conservation Area, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority is considering the establishment of an off-leash trail.

The Rainbow Loop is being proposed as a pilot off-leash trail. This area would permit park users to exercise their pets without the constraint of a leash. The off-leash area will be clearly marked with signs and maps.

Dog owners are still required to keep their dogs on a leash throughout the rest of the Hersey Lake Conservation Area.  This proposal is about ensuring the safety of all users, while balancing the recreational needs of the community.

General Manager David Vallier said, “The Conservation Authority recognizes the popularity of the area with City residents, including pet owners, and feels this compromise will satisfy the concerns and request that the MRCA has received.”
