The Timmins Rock started off the new decade the same way they ended the previous one… with a win. They were taking on the Soo Eagles and the Soo Thunderbirds in back to back fashion over the past weekend. They beat the Eagles 3-1 but fell short to the Thunderbirds 2-1 which ended their six game winning streak.

The Rock who are in the hunt for first place in the league, are now two points back of the Powassan Voodoos. They’ll take on the Cochrane Crunch for their first home game of this new decade, and it won’t be an easy task. The Crunch, are on a little wining streak after knocking off the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in overtime fashion on Friday January 3 and they just beat the Hearst Lumberjacks on Sunday January 5th 5-1.

The Crunch are in a position where momentum is on their side after pulling off back to back wins, which makes them hungry for another taste of victory. However, the Rock don’t like losing and they definitely don’t like losing on home ice.

The Rock, rarely lose at home and they will look to keep that ongoing trend by feeding off of the rowdy McIntyre arena on Thursday January 9th. The first half of the regular season was a wild one and you can be sure that with the playoffs rapidly approaching… This second half will be just as wild, so buckle up Rock fans!
