During today’s Health Table (April 22, 2020) Blaise MacNeil, President and CEO of the Timmins and District Hospital, confirmed that two of the four new cases that were announced are staff members of TADH.

“Since the declaration of the outbreak on Sunday, the hospital has tested approximately 200 staff members. All patients of the affected unit, exceeding the recommended testing requested by the health unit, we can confirm of those four positive cases unfortunately two are staff.” – Said MacNeil.

“At this point, with the confirmation of the community spread by the Porcupine Health Unit, we can not definitely confirm the infection was acquired in hospital. However, we are taking all precautions as we move through this investigation process.” – Added MacNeil.

DR. Lianne Catton of the Porcupine Health Unit later added that the investigation is still ongoing to determine what the connections are between the four new cases. Meaning if the virus was contracted by community spread, international travel, or close contact with another case.
